Athens Suburbs day tour
A private tour that guides you to the outskirts of Athens. Visit the Marathon lake the museums of Marathon, the Temple of Artemis in Vravrona and the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. Three destinations in one day.
Description
We start from the area of Marathon. Here, the Battle of Marathon took place in August or September 490 BC, between the Athenians and their allies Plateans against the Persians during the first invasion of Persians in Greece.
The original route of the Marathon race starts here, every year, from the Stadium of Marathon. In the Marathon location, we will also visit the lake by the same name, the museum of the Marathon Race, the Archaeological Museum, the Tomb of Marathon and the Stadium.
We continue heading to Vravrona, an important archaeological site of Attica, where the Temple of the goddess Artemis is located. Here, you will visit the archaeological site and the beautiful museum
You will dine at a seaside restaurant and continue towards Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon.
You have plenty of time to visit the Temple of Poseidon, which was built in 445 BC, at the southernmost tip of Attica, where once the strong Sounion fortress existed. In recent years, the area was declared a National Park because of its particular environmental value.
After we complete our visit to the Temple, we will take the road of return, via the coastal road, admiring the beautiful beaches.
Soon, we will reach Lake Vouliagmeni (thermal waters, where we will make a short 20 minutes stop in order to admire and take pictures of it.
After this, we complete our tour, by returning to Athens, where we started it.
