We also see the small island of Salamis, where the famous naval battle occurred. After about an hour, we make our first stop at the famous Corinth Canal. It is a 30 minutes short stop for photos, and then we move to the Isthmia area. Here is the entrance of the Canal from the Saronic Gulf, as well as the bridge, which is submerged at a depth of 10 meters, when a vessel is crossing the Canal.
Continuing our Corinth day tour, we reach the Ancient city of Corinth.
At the archaeological site, you will see the Temple of Apollo, the Pirene and Glafki fountains, the Ancient Agora and the location called “Vima” (Step) where the Apostle Paul was led to be tried by the Roman Proconsul Gallio, who refused to prosecute him. You will also see the Roman Odeon and the Ancient Theatre. The museum is situated in the same location.
Of course, we will continue our drive to the Acrocorinth rock, where the fortress by the same name stands at an altitude of 575 meters above the ancient city. There, we will make a brief stop and take pictures.
Before leaving the Corinth region, we will make a short stop to admire and photograph the mosaic on the life and visions of Apostle Paul, which is in the churchyard of St. Paul.
Our next stop will be in Kechries, one of the two ports of Ancient Corinth. It was at this port where Apostle Paul boarded a ship that carried him to Ephesus.
We will continue our Corinth day tour and leaving Kechries behind, we drive north, crossing the tourist area of Loutraki, renowned for its thermal baths.
A little later, we reach the village of Perachora (transformation of the phrase "PeraiaChora" meaning in Greek “the land on the other side” of the Isthmus of Corinth and the Ancient city of Corinth) where we find the magnificent lagoon of Vouliagmeni . Here, you will have the opportunity to swim in the crystal waters of the lagoon and have lunch in traditional taverns.
After one kilometer, we will come across the Cape Melagavi. The imposing lighthouse by the same name stands on top of the cape. The area is called Heraion of Perachora, and here, the goddess Hera was worshiped in antiquity. Heraion consists of two parts, dedicated to the goddess, called Hera Akraia and Hera Limanaia. Also, in the region, there is an Ancient L shaped stoa, a cistern, dining rooms and an altar. Parts of an Ancient aqueduct are still visible.
After finishing our visit in this magnificent archaeological site that very few know, we return to the place where we started our beautiful day.
