Shore excursion to Corinth
Private shore excursion from the port of Piraeus to the Corinth canal and Ancient Corinth the city where St Paul lived and taught for 18 months.
Because of its location, Corinth was the most important commercial hub of the Ancient world and was probably the richest city of Ancient Greece. It was also well known from the visit, stay and teaching of Apostle Paul in it. Starting from Piraeus port and taking the Athens – Corinth National Road, we see, on our left, the Saronic Gulf. We also see the small island of Salamis, where the famous naval battle occurred. After about an hour, we make our first stop at the famous Corinth Canal. It is a 30 minutes short stop for photos, and then we move to the Isthmia area. Here is the entrance of the Canal from the Saronic Gulf, as well as the bridge, which is submerged at a depth of 12 meters, when a vessel is crossing the Canal. Continuing our shore excursion to Corinth, we reach the Ancient city of Corinth. At the archaeological site, you will see the Temple of Apollo, the Pirene and Glafki fountains, the Ancient Agora and the location called “Vima” (Step) where the Apostle Paul was led to be tried by the Roman Proconsul Gallio, who refused to prosecute him. You will also see the Roman Odeon and the Ancient Theatre. The museum is situated in the same location. Of course, we will continue our drive to the Acrocorinth rock, where the fortress by the same name stands at an altitude of 575 meters above the ancient city. Before leaving the Corinth region, we will make a short stop to admire and photograph the mosaic on the life and visions of Apostle Paul, which is in the churchyard of St. Paul. Then, we take the road back to Piraeus. Duration 5 hours For your information All Archaeological sites and museums are closed: On January 1st, March 25th, Easter Day, May 1st, December 25th & 26th.
