Kapsia Cave and Nafplion
Private cave tour taking place in Peloponnese. This tour will guide you at one of the most important caves of Greece and at Nafplion the first capital of Greece after the Greek liberation (1828-1834).
Description
Starting from Athens, we head towards Peloponnese via the Athens - Corinth National Road, having on our left the Saronic Gulf.
We make a short stop at the Corinth Canal to take beautiful photos and then continue towards Tripoli.
Shortly before it, we leave the highway and drive to the village of Kapsia where we will find the famous cave.
The cave is located 15 kilometers away from Tripoli and near the village of Kapsia.
It is considered one of the most important caves in Greece. Human bones and pottery daily utensils have been found in it.
It was explored for the first time by French archaeologist Gustave Fougères, in1887. The official announcement about this cave was made in 1911 when light lamps, tools and bone fragments were found.
Inside the cave, one can see the hall of “wonders”, which stands out for its amazing colors: red, blue and yellow which make up a work of art, made up by nature itself.
After we visit the Cave, we will head to Nafplio.
Nafplio is the capital of the Argolis prefecture. In the 19th century, it was the first capital of Greece (from 1828 to 1834), after the liberation of the country from Ottoman rule. The old city has been given the status of a “traditional settlement” by the Greek state. It is full of historic buildings and ideal for walks through its narrow, picturesque alleys.
At Nafplio, you will dine and have the time to walk the narrow streets, admiring the historic picturesque buildings and the small water castle of Bourtzi, in the middle of the harbor.
After Nafplion we will take the way back to Athens.
